These tuna burgers offer a delightful combination of tender, flaky tuna and savory seasonings, complemented by the fresh crispness of green onions. Pan-fried to a golden-brown finish, each patty develops a subtle crust while remaining moist and flavorful on the inside. They present a balanced profile, making them a versatile addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (5 oz each) tuna in water, drained very well
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, flake the well-drained tuna with a fork.
  2. Add the breadcrumbs, egg, mayonnaise, sliced green onions, Dijon mustard (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to the bowl.
  3. Mix gently with a fork or your hands until just combined. Avoid overmixing to maintain a tender texture.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a firm, round patty, about 3/4-inch thick.
  5. Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
  6. Carefully place the tuna patties in the hot skillet, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook in batches if necessary.
  7. Cook for 4-6 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through.
  8. Remove from skillet and place on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

For firmer patties, chill the mixture for 30 minutes before shaping and cooking.

Ensure tuna is very well drained to prevent soggy patties.

Serve these burgers on toasted buns with your favorite toppings, or alongside a fresh salad.

Leftover tuna burgers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

For an extra flavor boost, add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to the mixture.
