Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pie crust (9-inch)
  • For the Filling:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • For the Hot Fudge Topping:
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon light corn syrup (optional, for shine)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the flour, cocoa powder, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt to the butter mixture. Mix until smooth and fully incorporated.
  4. Pour the chocolate filling into the prepared pie crust.
  5. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the center is set but still slightly jiggly. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out with moist crumbs.
  6. Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack before slicing, at least 2-3 hours.
  7. To make the hot fudge topping, combine chocolate chips, heavy cream, butter, and corn syrup (if using) in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir constantly until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
  8. Serve slices of pie warm, drizzled generously with the hot fudge topping.

Notes

For a homemade crust, ensure it is chilled thoroughly before baking to prevent shrinking.

Allowing the pie to cool completely is crucial for it to set properly and prevent a runny filling when sliced.

The hot fudge can be made ahead and gently reheated over low heat or in the microwave before serving.

Serve with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or a dollop of freshly whipped cream for an extra treat.

Store leftover pie covered at room temperature for up to 2 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
